Born: Lakeland, Florida
Ron graduated from the University of Florida in 1967 with a B.S. degree with a specialization in turf grass science.
After graduation, he worked as an apprentice with national golf design firms, including three years of which were in the Bahamas.
Five years later, in 1972, he opened his own firm, Ron Garl Golf Design, in Lakeland, Florida. Over 120 worldwide projects bear his name, with 2/3 of them located in the Sunshine State.
Garl co-authored the Urban Land Institute's book Golf Course Development in Residential Communities.
His hobbies include flying and the restoration of Cushman Eagle motor scooters.
