George received his degree from University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture and spent 8 years immersed in the golf industry as both a golf course superintendent and director of golf at some of New Hampshire's finest resort country clubs. He has also owned and operated a golf course as well as a construction company specific to golf course irrigation systems.

George formed a partnership with Philip Wogan in 1991 and launched Wogan & Sargent, Inc., a golf course design company that is still known today for their remarkable work in the Northeast. Under the tutelage of Philip Wogan, George completed his studies and apprenticeship for a career as a golf course architect. He became a member of the ASGCA in 1999.
