Great Southwest Golf Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Great Southwest Golf Club first opened for play in 1965. The course was designed by Byron Nelson and Ralph Plummer.
This is a tree-lined course, but its fairways afford generous landing areas. The terrain is rolling, and the greens are undulating. Water hazards come into play on some holes, and sand bunkers have been scattered about the entire course.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,706 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,264 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 551 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 159 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 4, a 408 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 11, a 159 yard par-3.
The course closed in 2015.
The 163-acre course situated along Johnson Creek in northern Grand Prairie was sold for redevelopment. The course was profitable and had over 300 members. It was not sold because it wasn't profitable, it was sold because the commercial land it sat on became extremely valuable.
