Detailed description

Austin Country Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Austin, Texas.

The current Austin Country Club Golf Course opened for play in 1984. The course was designed by Pete Dye.

Austin Country Club traces it's roots back to 1899 when it was founded by Lewis Hancock. A cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, Lewis Hancock served as the Mayor of Austin in 1886 at the age of 40. He was also the second President of Austin's oldest bank and founded the Hancock Opera House. He raised from the early Austin families a rather considerable sum of money to buy the land and make the necessary improvements to start the Austin Golf Club.

In 1949, needing more space, the Club moved to Riverside Drive in east Austin and the Club remained at the Riverside Drive location until 1984, at which time the decision was made to move to their current Davenport Ranch location.

The Club consists of an 18-hole Pete Dye design golf course, Harvey Penick learning center, 10 lighted tennis courts (two of which are clay surface), heated swimming pool, fitness facility, 57 boat slips and a large clubhouse. The clubhouse includes various dining areas, a large ballroom and meeting room facilities, as well as men's and ladies' locker rooms.
