Detailed description
Tam O'shanter Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania

Tam O'shanter Golf Course first opened for play in 1929. The course was designed by Emil Leoffler.

Tam O'shanter Golf Course is known for its lush fairways and fast greens that are bordered by large, native hardwoods and pines. The beauty of the area abounds with panoramic views overlooking the rolling, wooded hills of the Shenango Valley.

On the first tee, you can observe a bronze plaque commemorating Sam Snead's record score of 64 in a 1949 exhibition.

The signature hole is #14, a 152-yard, par 3, known as "Death Valley" because of the many good scores that have died in its depths. Your tee shot is through a narrow corridor of large trees to a plateau green. A ball falling short makes a par difficult. A tombstone memorializes those that have fallen in its depths. After seeing how narrow #13 green is, this green looks just as narrow from the tee, with a huge gorge between the player and the green. In actuality, the green is quite large and deep, but it does not look that way from the tee. The hole plays somewhat uphill, with trees blocking the extreme right and left sides of the green. This hole is all carry, and the back-to-front slope will hold an iron shot nicely.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,537 yards. From the foward tees the course plays to 5,385 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 570 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, a par-3 that plays to 142 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 3, the 570 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Tam O'shanter Golf Course is # 14, the 142 yard par-3.
