Detailed description

Candywood Golf Club is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Vienna, Ohio.

Candywood Golf Club first opened for play in 1967.

Candywood's front nine has many wide-open fairways, but its back nine was built through a heavily wooded area. The large greens are very fast and some of them are undulating. Water hazards (natural streams and three man-made lakes) come into play on five holes. There are some long par 3's in excess of 200 yards. Candywood Golf Club boasts about its country club conditioned course with huge, fast greens, with no sand bunkers. Candywood Golf Club is a gently rolling course that is pleasant to walk if you desire and with the hole design to reward accurate approaches more so on the back nine with trees that line the fairways.

#8, is a 346 yard par 4 that has a tight fairway with mounds, wild prairie grass and trees then opens to an accessible green. When playing # 8 look at the beauty of the design from the green back to the tee box.

# 12 is an under-rated 359 yard, par 4, tree-lined on both sides with a long green for a difficult approach. This par 4 is a tough par for the length and the tight fairway but also the approach must be accurately measured to ensure a makeable put for birdie.

#16, a par 4 - 327 yard dogleg left is the signature hole. Trees line both sides, a straightaway tee shot is required but must be correctly played 195-215 yards out on the right center of the fairway to provide a clear, unobstructed shot to a smallish green (by Candywood standards) that slopes slightly away from the golfer. A very narrow opening around the bend of the dogleg provides creative shotmaking. Trees that pinch and overhang call for a very accurate and well-struck second shot to a green that is a tricky putting surface.

Candywood Golf Course plays to a maximum distance of 6,672 yards and a par-72. The course rating is 71.4 with a 116 slope rating. Candywood has four sets of markers for all golfing abilities.

CLOSED 2016

Candywood Golf Course closed after the 2015 season. As of the spring of 2016, ownership of the course is in the process of turning into a wild animal hunting preserve.

As pf the early spring 2016, the owners of Candywood reportedly declined to comment on the project, saying it was not official and they were still going through the licensing process. However, there intention seems pretty clear as an 8-foot tall fence surrounds the property with signs that say “Wild Hunting Preserve,”
