Lochmere Golf Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located in Cary, North Carolina.
Lochmere Golf Club opened for play in 1985. The course was designed by Gene Hamm.
Although bordered by housing, the course has a secluded look and feel. The course has tight, tree-lined fairways and small greens that are heavily guarded by bunkers. While the mature tree lined fairways and bunkers provide many challenges, the presence of water on nearly every hole is the most dominant obstacle throughout the golf course. The nearby Swift Creek supplies the abundant water hazards. Straight hitters will work their way through this relatively short course fairly painlessly, but the course will swallow wayward shots.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,627 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,904 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 558 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 164 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 8, a 445 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 11, a 164 yard par-3.
Since being purchased by ClubCorp (owners of Pinehurst Resort, just one hour south), Lochmere Golf Club has seen significant upgrades. A course that was formerly considered swampy even in the dry season, you can now drive your carts across fairways after normal rainfall without damaging the course. New greens and general conditioning have changed many local's minds about this course.
