Toana Vista Golf Course first opened for play in 1989. The course was designed by Homer Flint.
Toana Vista Golf Course is located in Wendover, NV. Wendover straddles the Utah/Nevada border about 2 hours west from Salt Lake City. Because of the close proximity many Utah ties are maintained. In fact, Wendover businesses follow Mountain Standard Time instead of Pacific Standard Time like the rest of Nevada.
The course is a few miles from the Utah border.
The natural desert in Wendover consists of rock and hard soil in which only sagebrush can survive. This is the rugged terrain through which Toana Vista's narrow fairways snake toward small, mounded and well bunkered greens. Add to the mix several strategically placed water hazards and the over achieving desert wind and Toana Vista can be tough. But it sure is a lot of fun!
The secret to playing a good round is to keep it on the grass -- any grass. Off the fairway the natural desert rough is hard soil and rock.
There are many memorable holes at Toana Vista:
#8 is a 615 yard monster par-5. This is the #1 handicap hole on the course
#11 has the most intimidating tee shot on the course. It's a downhill par 3 of only 159-185 yards but the swirling winds will deposit miss hit balls into the large pond fronting the green.
#12, a par-5 offers the best risk-reward shot. A well driven tee ball will give the player the reward of going for the green in two. The risk is that the shot must carry the length of a water hazard lined with railroad ties. No second chances if the ball's short - it will either make the green or bounce off the planks into the water.
# 14, a 378 yard par-4 has hiden water! There is a pond in the left corner of the hole that can be hidden from the tee box and or the approach shot. It is very reachable so stay right.
Blue Tees: par 72, 6,820 yards, 72.6/124
White Tees: par 72, 5,992yards, 68.6/116
Red Tees: par 72, 5,220 yards, 71.0/124
