Toiyabe Golf Club, previously a private course named Thunder Canyon Country Club, is a semi-private 18 hole golf course located in Washoe Valley, Nevada.
The course was originally named The Golf Club at Lightning W Ranch. The course first opened for play in 1994. The course was renamed Thunder Canyon in 1999 and again renamed in 2016. The course was designed by Robert Muir Graves.
This traditional course, located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, offers outstanding views. The fairways are contoured, and the greens are medium to large in size and fast. Water hazards come into play on fourteen holes. One of the most scenic holes is #17, a 191-yard, par 3. This hole features an elevated tee box that plays out of a chute of pine trees to a well-bunkered green. A teaching center is available.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 7,241 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,906 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 606 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 160 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 3, a 501-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 191 yard par-3.
