Jason Fiore, of Fiore Realty Holdings purchased the course from Southwick Country Club owner William Najam. Najam, 74, a Westfield attorney. The golf course sold on February 22, 2018, to Fiore for a reported $1.9 million.
Fiore plans to develop housing on the 122 acres with 65 to 80 homes selling for $280,000 to $380,000. The Fiore purchase includes the building that once housed a clubhouse and the Candlewood Inn restaurant.
The city had the first right to match any purchase offer but turned down the opportunity. Najam had given the town that right decades ago in exchange for a property tax abatement under an open space preservation program.
