Detailed description

Southborough Golf Club, previously a Semi-private 9-hole golf course named St. Mark's Golf Club, is now a public, 9 hole golf course. The course is located in Southborough, Massachusetts.

The course first opened for play in 1915. The course was designed by the Chote Family.

The course was designed with the Scottish links-style in mind.  The terrain is hilly and there are many pot bunkers throughout the course.

Par for the course is 35. From the back tees, the course plays to 2,784 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 2,226 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 431 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 140 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 362-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at St. Marks Golf Course is # 2, the 140 yard par-3.

St. Marks school and the town agreed on a plan in 2016 whereby the school would be given 4 acres of town property and $4.5 in exchange for the golf course's 60 acres. The town plans to use a portion of the 60 acres building a new public safety complex and preserving 30 acres for open space,

As of 2018, it looks like the town will keep the course open for the foreseeable future.

The plan calls for using no more than 6 acres to build the public safety building and place a permanent conservation restriction on the remaining land—approximately 90 percent of the property, the Daily News reported.

The town reached an agreement with New England Golf Corporation to operate the course for the next two years (218, 2019). The first tee and ninth green will be moved to accommodate the new public safety building.

The existing clubhouse will be moved to a new location in close proximity to the first tee and ninth green.
