Detailed description

Needham Golf Club is a Private 9 hole golf course located in Needham, Massachusetts.

The Needham Golf Course was first opened for play in 1901. The Town of Needham acquired rights to the land that the Needham Golf Club now occupies in 1898. At that time the land was part of the watershed area to the Town's water supply. The Water Board authorized the construction of the golf course and gave the Needham Golf Course the charge of protecting and maintaining the land and the water supply. Wayne Stiles, a disciple of Donald Ross, was secured to be the golf course architect.

The Needham Golf Club was incorporated in 1923 as a non-profit organization. It was once again given the charge by the Town to protect and maintain the water supply for future use. Since that time, the land has been upgraded and maintained by the Club at no cost to the Town.

The Needham Golf Club has tree lined fairways with well position creeks and ponds. Big hitters, unless deadly accurate, might be well served by leaving their driver in the bag on holes 2-8.

Par for the course is 35. From the back tees the course plays to 3,109 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 2,887 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 9, a par-5 that plays to 525 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 166 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 6, a 398 yard par-4 challenge and the #2 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Needham Golf Club is # 7, the 166 yard par-3.
